How ripiti works

Ripiti rests on three principles:

From memory. Recognising a word is not knowing it. Only when you can say or write it from memory is it yours. That is why you type every answer in ripiti: the German word, the right conjugation. No multiple choice, nothing to click.

By ear. Being able to write a word does not mean you understand it when someone says it. That is why you also hear everything you learn without text: the German word, and you say what it means. Conjugations you hear in a sentence and write down, accents and all.

Repeat. Not ten times in a row, but a few times at the right moment: just before you lose it again. If you still know it, the gap gets longer. That is called spaced repetition, and there is a reason repeating is in the name: ripiti.

Every word and every conjugation is a card, and every card climbs a staircase. That decides when the card comes back.

In the order you meet them, in sets of ten. Every word has its own page with meaning, sentences and conjugation. German as spoken in Germany.

Conjugations: 50 verbs, 5 tenses, from A1 to B1

Conjugate and find out: type the form that fits in the sentence.

conjugation · sein · present tense (Präsens)
I am very tired today.
Ich ____ heute sehr müde.
bin
Ich bin heute sehr müde.
I am very tired today.

You get an English sentence and the same sentence in German with a gap; you type only the form. Where a tense follows one pattern, you practise the pattern rather than every verb separately: the whole Präsens is 52 cards. Irregular forms get their own card and are shown in gold.

sein · present tense (Präsens)bin · bist · ist · sind · seid · sind

Conjugations come back by ear too: you hear the sentence and type the form.

Tests: whole sentences, with a mark

Translate and find out: type the sentence in German.

translate this sentence
Our house is right by the river.
Unser Haus steht direkt am Fluss.

There is a dictation too: you hear the sentence and type it. Every test gets a mark, no steps; tests unlock once you master your first words (step 3).

Practical

What does it cost?
Nothing. No subscription, no ads; the website counts visits with Google Analytics, the app does not.
Do I need an account?
No. Your progress lives on your device. An account only exists to keep two devices in sync.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Add ripiti to your home screen and it works as an app, even without a connection. Audio you have never heard needs a connection once.
What level is it for?
Beginner to intermediate: the words you need first, and the tenses from A1 to B2.
What is it not?
Not a course and not a conversation partner. ripiti is the practice alongside your class, your book or your daily life in that language.
Who wrote the sentences?
They were written and checked with AI, not by a teacher. If a sentence is off, you flag it in the app with one tap.
