three example sentences per word, with translation
The staircase method
You do not master a word by getting it right once, but by still knowing it after a longer and longer break. That is why every word climbs a staircase.
Every new word begins at the bottom, at the start.
Right answer: the word goes up one step.
The higher the step, the longer the break before the word comes back: 1 day, 3 days, 7 days … up to 240 days.
You cannot climb on in one day: you reach the next step only when the app asks for the word again.
Wrong: the word goes back to the start, and comes up once more further down the same row.
From step 3 a word counts as mastered.
Using what you know
Apply unlocks by itself once you master your first words (step 3).
You only get sentences with words you already master; the stock grows with you.
Translate sentences: a test of 10 sentences with a mark. A missed sentence comes back in the same test, but is then worth only half.
Listen to sentences: you hear a sentence and type what you hear.
Words by ear: you hear a word and say yourself whether you knew the meaning.
The tests have no staircase: every test is a random draw from your stock, so the mark stays honest.
